Emilio Butragueño, Director of Institutional Relations at Real Madrid, praised Karim Benzema, who was named UEFA Player of the Year on Thursday.
“For football, it is fortunate that there are players like Benzema,” Butragueno told Cadena Ser radio.
He added that he hopes to win the Ballon d’Or because he considers himself the only candidate from his point of view.

Butragueno also praised coach Carlo Ancelotti’s work in leading Real Madrid, saying: “He manages an impressive group of talented players, with a mixture of experience and youth, who led us to a very successful season and deserves to receive the Coach of the Year award.”
The former Real Madrid player indicated that the crowd at the Santiago Bernabeu played a key role in the team’s crowning of the Champions League for the 14th time in the club’s history.
Butragueno analyzed Real Madrid’s participation in Group D in the Champions League with Leipzig in Germany, Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine and Celtic of Scotland, saying: “This is the Champions League, there will be 6 very difficult matches, but we are very excited.”
